Next time we have a contest, it should be a story writing competition. I would enter that.

Umm that's not right :/
No one gives the people who can't draw this well a chance. The only people who are able to win these contests are professional artists. It's not fair to the rest of us.

Thanks anyways judges. :/

tbh it they were to let the crappier looking drawings win it wouldnt be fair... if you want a trophy, then practice and get to be that artist.

ALL ART IS BEAUTIFUL! CRAPPY! GARABAGE! PROFESSIONAL! NON-PROFESSIONAL! EVERYTHING IS PERFECT!!! IN THEIR OWN WAY!!

HOW DARE YOU BRING DOWN THE ART OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE STRUGGLED TO COMPLETE A PIECE OF ART!!! HOW DARE YOU EVEN REPLY SAYING THERE WAS CRAPPY ART! HOOOWWW DDDAAAARRREEEEE YOOOOUU!!!!

REEEEEEEE!!!!!
My intentions aren't to bring down other people. What I'm trying to say is that if someone wants to make their art more appealing they have to keep practicing and never give up, not just expect to win prizes and get glorified when they're just starting and their skills are still sub-par. Mentalities like yours are kinda toxic and halts progress.

AND HOW DARE YOU JUDGE A ARTWORK BY THE WAY IT LOOKS!!! HAVE YOU HEARD THE PHRASE 'DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER'??!!

what lol
you CAN judge art by the way it looks.
the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" can't apply to art.

I'm a hobbyist, but this is the first time I've ever been selected as a semifinalist in any contest that I've entered, and I've been drawing/doing contests for years. Don't let it bum you out, if you're stubborn like me, you'll get there eventually.

Just because most of the semifinalists are professional artists doesn't mean that the judges aren't giving hobbyists and non-professionals a chance. It instead suggests that professionals are highly experienced in art (as they have spent years of practice, trial and error, and dedication into making art a working career); this gives them a large understanding of what makes an art piece "work".

However, this isn't to say that those who "don't draw well" are unable to win in a contest. There are plenty of artists who aren't professionals who have spent just as much time and effort perfecting their craft and it's their own patience, practice, and determination that allows, or will allow, them to stand up against the greats.

Yes I get what you are saying but everytime DA has a contest none of us non-proffessionals ever win. (I had another account on here before complicated stuff happened). Yeah even though the professionals are highly experienced at what they do, they have the upper hand at everything. I just believe non-proffessionals should actually have a chance in doing something. Non-proffessional artworks actually have more meaning, I believe.

Mm.. yeah but only with contests that are made by members not the DA admins.

Well thanks for responding to my message. I was just angry because most of the artwork that was chosen didn't promote a non-proffessional. Non-proffessionals are more unique than the professionals themselves.
I'm not mad anymore tbh as soon as the time turned to 11 I just kinda said forget it it's cool.

"Non-proffessionals are more unique than the professionals themselves"
LOL
you do know that those "professionals" were non-professionals at one point? they all had to work their way up, buddy. work hard and practice, and you'll be rewarded.
if everyone were to get a trophy then no one would strive to better themselves.

Yes of course I know that, it's common knowledge.  But it's not fair to the people who aren't professionals. We non-professionals ever get the chance to do anything because no one gives us a chance :/ they just look over our art and just pick the ones that has more like/ views.
We better ourselves everyday, working on pieces and practicing different ways especially trying to challenge ourselves.

I'm not saying everyone should be awarded I'm just saying that it's not fair to the non-professionals who actually try.

Seeing the winners of the contest now, I can understand your point. There were about seven hobbyists/non-professionals who made it to the semi-finals from what I could tell, though none of them actually ended up winning. Some of their entries had an interesting approach, too, especially the ones by Plunteere and SushiyamaArt.
Also, you're welcome. Let's hope that, sometime in the future, there is an opportunity in which hobbyists can have their talents recognized a little more.

One thing everyone can take away from seeing the awesome semi finalists entries is to be very dynamic when entering one of these contests. I only learned about the contest the day before it was over so I quickly whipped something up just to be part of it. Seeing the entries that did place I know they put hard work and a lot of thought into what they did!

WHAT BUGS ME IS NOT ALL THESE HAVE PROBLEMS. I really like these artworks, and I may not have won. But honestly- the contest specifically said to draw Kubo overcoming a problem. Its not all of them that are like this, but it just doesn't seem right. Sorry for my rant. :P
