Interview with syncmax

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

I’m depicting Red Card enjoying his favorite TV show during his free time, after his crime-fighting job. You may think he’s watching his favorite German soccer match. Wrong! He’s actually watching a children’s cartoon show called “Butterfly Princesses.” It’s his favorite show.

How did you create your artwork?

First, I always start with a grayscale sketch. Then I start adding colors on top of the grayscale work with either Overlay or Hard-Light layer style. When I was happy with the colors, I flattened some of the layers and started polishing to the final. I also added some smaller details and props to make the whole piece more interesting.

Tell us about yourself. How long have you been drawing, and what are some highlights from your career as an artist?

I'm a digital artist specialized in concept art and illustration, with many years of experience in the entertainment industry. I started drawing at a young age and wanted to be a comic artist at first. When the comics industry started to decline, I shifted my interest and taught myself digital painting. It’s weird, because I actually graduated in graphic design rather than fine arts or from an entertainment art school.

One of my highlights was when I won the Dominance War International Game Competition. That was quite prestigious. Many new and veteran artists in the industry joined the competition. I was a young self-taught artist at that time, and it marked my path and started my journey to become a successful concept artist in the industry. Now I mostly work on concept art and illustrations with studios and also commissions. I am planning to finish my personal projects for my debut art book in the future.

Interview with GUWEIZ

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

Oni is having a simple lunch at a roadside stall in between jobs. He strikes me as a person who would have a relatively simple lifestyle outside of his profession. Since lunch is something most people have every day, I thought it would be fitting for him to be enjoying a meal.

What skills, as an artist, did you have to draw on most to complete your piece?

I feel having solid fundamentals helped me very much. While I’ve never drawn soba stands or people eating in detail before, I was able to identify the physical forms and how everything fell into the 3D space, and the picture came together really well.

Tell us about yourself. How long have you been drawing, and what are some highlights from your career as an artist?

I have been drawing since mid 2013 and moved onto digital drawings in 2014. I have been working on fantasy card illustrations for Legend of the Cryptids and am looking forward to uploading some of my art soon. I also worked on promotional illustrations for Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell film release. Recently I was really honored to get a super-cool portfolio featured in ImagineFX’s July issue. Currently, I have client and personal projects in progress, and hopefully I’ll be able to forge ahead in the years to come!

Interview with Claparo-Sans

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

Looking at Yeti, I can tell he’s a guy who could easily hang out with a tiger the way other people would play with a small kitten. I have never drawn this type of character before, so I didn’t want to overwhelm myself with a piece that was too serious. That’s why I decided to draw something funny instead, and here we have Yeti painting his pet tiger on a leisure day with an almost dreamy atmosphere.

How did you create your artwork?

I started with a thumbnail sketch, which I usually use to set up the composition and to demonstrate the direction of the painting. Then I continued with a clean sketch. I made a mistake when I impatiently rushed this step, and as a result, the layout seemed off when adjusting the balance of light and shadow. It was a struggle to deal with, and it took me quite some time to adjust and fix everything to the point where I felt comfortable to continue. The next step is where I added some basic shading and cleaned up the details. I also did some anatomy research, but eventually decided to just make up the muscles.

I then added colors, refined the details, used an airbrush to smoothen some edges, adjusted the colors, and did some minor finishing touches.

How long did it take you to decide what to create?

It took me a couple of days doodling some thumbnail sketches until a friend threw me the keyword “painting.” I thought, “Yeah, why not? Let’s draw Yeti painting this pet tiger!”

Interview with elsevilla

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

This is Scheherazade playing ping pong with other agents. They can’t seem to match her ninja-like skills -- not even with two against her.

When coming up with the idea for your agent’s day-to-day, from where did you draw inspiration the most?

I love watching sports and have always wanted to try an illustration like this. I had to put her in an unnatural pose in order to make her stand out more – which sacrificed the motion a bit. I have always loved Saints Row and their crazy ideas, so it was not hard to be inspired to make this piece.

What skills, as an artist, did you have to draw on most to complete your piece?

Lately, I've been trying to improve angles, which is a new thing for me. I need to be careful with color. Sometimes I oversaturate, but editors suggested to make the piece easier to read, and I am very thankful for that. Most of the time you can’t see your own flaws, so I love hearing other opinions and ideas on improving an image.

Interview with larienne

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

Hollywood is taking a selfie! When I saw Hollywood, I thought of him as that funny/charming guy who would take a photo of himself doing something cool. He would then post on social media, which would naturally have many faithful fans.

How long did it take you to create your piece?

Around 2 hours to polish the sketch. Then about 6 hours to paint the drawing.

Tell us about yourself. How long have you been drawing, and what are some highlights from your career as an artist?

I have been drawing for ages, but professionally for about three years. Some of my highlights include doing a commission for Blizzard, being featured on ImagineFX, working for game developers, and of course this illustration for Agents of Mayhem!

Interview with TamberElla

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

In my piece, Agent Braddock is up in the early hours of the morning doing target practice out in nature. After watching some of her gameplay footage, I noticed she spends most of her time in cities. I thought it would be calming and a change of pace for her to practice out in the forest. She’s a tough agent with a lot of responsibilities, so honing her skills in the beauty of nature may help her relax and focus.

How long did it take you to create your piece?

It took me about 11 hours from start to finish.

What skills, as an artist, did you have to draw on most to complete your piece?

I spent a lot of time trying to decide the best colors to use. Color is one of my favorite artistic subjects. As a result, I spent a lot of time contemplating color decisions and asking myself why I wanted to use a certain color and what mood it would portray. I also tried to show enough in the background to maintain interest and setting, but also to create a blurry abstract feeling to the elements. I paid close attention to the quality of my edges in different areas of the piece. I also tried to create swaths of mellow, uneventful space for the important elements to silhouette against.

Interview with CGlas

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

The agent is cooking her favourite dish, Feijoada, a black bean stew. The agents want to have a perfect meal, especially after a stressful day.

When coming up with the idea for your agent’s day-to-day, from where did you draw inspiration the most?

I have always been a food fanatic and have recently gotten into cooking. I even researched up on how to cook Feijoada before attempting to sketch her.

How long have you been drawing, and what are some highlights from your career as an artist?

When I had settled on the concept, I first made a rough-line sketch, and later I did a couple of color variations, as well as rough drafts with the background. I combined a matte painting technique (photobashing) with regular painting, where I used photo textures and drew over them to try and create the scene which would fit the character. The base was colored in black and white, and I added the colors on the layers with different blending modes, such as Soft Light, Overlay, Multiply, etc. Then I drew everything with colors and with various brushes. Colors I edited with numerous Adjustment Layers, and for the final touch-up I added filters, such as Smart Sharpen, Noise, Iris Blur, and Chromatic Aberration.

Interview with NanFe

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

The painting shows Joule and Oni having drinks in the beautiful moonlight at their favorite bar following a mission. Oni is making his drink, and Joule is reading a book -- a great way to relieve stress.

How did you create your artwork?

I went to my favorite bar with a friend and took several reference photos based off of some brainstorming ideas I had. After returning home, I created a new rough sketch right away to set up the atmosphere of the painting. Initially, Oni and Joule both had wounds, blood, and bodies all over the place. There were shadows suggesting a new battle was coming with cold main tones. Then I decided to change it and gave them a peaceful and cozy night out.

Based off of the situation you depicted - what would your agent do next?

If they got a call, maybe they would go for another mission, or just stay awake till next day, go home, and have a nasty hangover.

Interview with Valentina-Remenar

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

As someone who’s an immunologist, Rama is probably feeling most comfortable when she’s in the laboratory. For her downtime, I decided to portray her when she’s making a nanite potion, surrounded with laboratory glassware.

When coming up with the idea for your agent’s day-to-day, from where did you draw inspiration the most?

What I liked about her character is that she seeks to cure those who need help and isn’t interested into money or fame. All she wants is a revenge against the LEGION because of the Dark Matter Plague which was caused by them, and which she now tries to cure. That inspired me to portray her passion towards medicine, by illustrating her making a potion.

When I had settled on the concept, I first made a rough-line sketch, and later I did a couple of color variations, as well as rough drafts with the background. Interview with TableTaffy Studios

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

The goal was to depict a moment of downtime with the agent in every day life. One thing I picked-up on was that he likes books, so I wanted to capture a moment with him lost in a good book with a companion.

How long did it take you to create your piece?

The piece took about two days to create.

Based off of the situation you depicted - what would your agent do next?

He’d probably make a cup of espresso and read another book.

Interview with GENZOMAN

When coming up with the idea for your agent’s day-to-day, from where did you draw inspiration the most?

I love street culture and the life that is formed in the commercial districts. The use of strong, bright color always makes an area and image attractive. I love the idea of working like this. Elements of the area, such as fast food, allowed me to play with neon lights. I love Kingpin’s sneakers and, of course, his gangsta look and style.

Based off of the situation you depicted - what would your agent do next?

If I were him, I would order another burger combo and a refill of soda before going into action again.

Tell us about yourself. How long have you been drawing, and what are some highlights from your career as an artist?

I have been drawing for around 17 years as a professional artist. I began as a child, like everyone, drawing my favorite TV characters. I was largely influenced by cartoons, movies, and video game designs. My dream as a child was to work on these animated TV shows and video games. My favorite shows and games largely influenced me as an artist. Since I like both fantasy and anime, my style developed into a hybrid between both. When I was out of school, I found my way professionally doing a lot of cover artwork for metal albums, magazines, and trading card games. Some highlights of my career would probably be the teaser art I did for the production of Godzilla (2014), which was released at the 2010 Comic-Con. I was also able to work closely with production in making a prequel comic for Wrath of the Titans. I am very happy and grateful for every year working as an artist!

Interview with MartaNael

What is your Agent doing, and what made you depict your agent in this situation?

Daisy is a tough, badass character. I imagine her to be an independent strong woman. Unafraid of being herself, she’s ambitious and who knows exactly what she wants. Daisy would never let others tell her what to do. I love my small moments of solitude when I get home from work, enjoying the homeliness of my place and lying in bed, wearing some comfy clothes, watching my favorite series, or just chilling. So I wanted to portray Daisy being by herself and relishing the tranquility of being entirely alone and not giving a damn. I thought that perhaps she could be eating unhealthy food and drinking a lot (of bad beer, of course) after a day of work, while lying on the floor of her apartment, which is a total mess.

How long did it take you to create your piece?

I spent about 5 days of work, 8 hours each day.

How long did it take you to decide what to create?

I was quite clear about her attitude and the message I wanted to convey in this painting. However, I was hesitant whether to depict her at a bar or at home. And I wasn’t sure if it would be better to depict her lying or just sitting on a sofa, in a relaxed and informal position, with legs spread out or placing her feet on a table. Eventually I decided to go with this pose, since it was quite different to what we’re used to seeing. Also, it still had some kind of innocent and homeliness feeling, despite showing a bad-girl attitude. I spent about a day deciding how to portray her.
